Q. How do I setup SFTP/Secure Ftp on my pc connecting to my server instead of regular ftp and why should I use only SFTP?

A. Great question.
SFTP uses ssl encryption to connect to our servers standard FTP protocols use clear text to transmit your user id and password to our server to authenticate you and allow you to logon.

To setup your PC to connect:

>> Simply open WS_FTP pro or similar program -

>> Select Create site

>> ?Enter any name you like" to describe this connection; click Next

>> Next enter the hostname for connection:; click Next

>> Enter User ID : youruserid and Password: yourpassword ; click Finish

>> Highlight this connection in the ?Connect To? List

>> >> Click ?Edit?

>> Highlight ?Advanced? in the left menu

>> >> In the first drop down box, select ?SFTP/SSH?

>> >> Change the ?Remote port (usually 21):? setting to 29

>> >> Leave the other settings as is

>> Highlight ?SSL? in the left menu

>> >> Select Client certificate "NONE"

>> >> Check in the box ?Use only 128 bit SSL ??

>> >> Check in the box ?Use unencrypted command channel after SSL authentication?

>> >> Click ?OK?

>> Establish Connection now - in WS_FTP you should see a padlock with keys indicating that you have connected via secure connection
