Q. How do I setup SFTP/Secure Ftp on my MAC connecting to my server instead of regular ftp and why should I use only SFTP?

A. Great question.
SFTP uses ssl encryption to connect to our servers standard FTP protocols use clear text to transmit your user id and password to our server to authenticate you and allow you to logon.

To setup your MAC to connect:

Simply open Fetch http://www.fetchsoftworks.com/ or similar program -

"From the file menu open a new connection"

Next enter the hostname for connection:

For this example use server hostname : yourdomainname.com

User ID : youruserid

Password: yourpassword

Click connect using "Sftp/"
Remote port must be set if for example Global2000 servers use port 29
for ssh rather than port 22 so set remote port to port 29

then on the right select "SSL"
Click connect and save as a short-cut
